Who Is This Book For
This book is for anyone who is serious about becoming a ‘high-value individual.’ This book is aimed more at people who work in an organisation and want to climb the ladder. So if you want to be the kind of person who gets promoted, earns the big bucks and climbs the corporate ladder then this book is for you. However, I would also say that this book is also good for business owners as it covers a wide range of topics including leadership, Sales, Marketing, Execution, Management, Personal Productivity and more.
What are the main headlines of this book
The book is intended to be a 60-day training course. Each day, for 60 days, Donald Miller shares a business lesson for the day to make things more bite-sized and easy to consume. By the way – this format totally works!
Donald Miller starts off the book by talking about how each employee has an imaginary floating number above their head. This is the financial number you need to bring in to keep your job (and be considered for promotion). Miller argues that a high-value person should bring in 6 times their salary. That’s a big ask! However, this is why not everyone is a high-value performer.
Therefore the book is broken down into topics to teach you (holistically) how a business works. The sections include:
- Finance
- Sales
- Marketing
- Leadership
- Personal Productivity
For me, one of the best parts of the book was the Sales Funnel section. In this part, Miller goes through in detail how an effective sales funnel should function. I won’t give you all the info and rob you of the opportunity to read the book yourself.
Another highlight include Marketing and the ability to keep things simple. The brain doesn’t like confusing messages. The art of crafting clear messaging is one that Miller is known for – because he’s so good at it. This tip alone could help transform businesses.
One of my favourite tips by far was in the productivity section. In this section, Miller talks about blocking out time to do your most important work. He tends to do his creating/writing in the mornings because that’s when he’s at his best. He takes meetings after that blocked out session. This has totally transformed my day and I feel this has added tremendous value to my business. I’m sure it will add tremendous value to your productivity too.
Summary
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
There you have it – our Business Made Simple book review. I’m a big fan of Donald Miller. His writing style is so simple and easy to understand. Miller has a unique ability to take complex concepts and explain them in a simple way. For anyone wanting to become a high-value performer or get a 360 overview of a business then this is a perfect book. I like the approach of 1 business lesson a day over a 60 day period. I fully recommend this book.
