The Golden Question
What Does 'Good' Look Like?
If you want to get clarity in your business then this is the golden question you should ask all the time. This question forces you (and others) to clearly define what a successful outcome would look like. In business, we should always be aiming to start with the outcome, clearly define it and then go after it. Let’s look at an example.
Let’s say that you want to increase your net profit. You could increase your net profit by 1 penny, 1 pound or even £100. But is that a successful outcome? Probably not.
So the goal is to increase your net profit. Now let’s ask what ‘good’ looks like. By asking this question, you may come up with something like this:
We increase our net profit from £10,000 to £20,000 by 31st March 2022.
How clear does that look? Pretty clear right?!
By using the golden question, we’ve now clearly identified what the successful outcome looks like. Anything less could be considered a failure.
Go ahead, use the golden question to get clarity in your business.
