So today we’re going to be talking about morning routines and, uh, you know, we’ve talked about why morning routines are important on the blog. If you go to businessfixer.co.uk does loads of stuff from there about things like the 5:00 AM club and all that all I want to do is just kind of go through how I approach my morning routine, what I try and do, you know, and you can pick and choose things that are good for you. Um, and you know, you might say actually, Yeah, your routine is perfect for me.
Um, other others of you may be listening to this and say, well, actually, uh, I like that, that, and that by do like that stuff there, but that’s entirely fine. It’s whatever works for you because everybody’s different. Everybody’s, body’s different. Everybody’s family situation is different living arrangements, different.
So you have to do something that works for you, but the principle is this either way, no matter what the details look like, you just need to get up here. And have a routine. So I try to do the following. This is what my normal routine does look like. If I’m not ill or, you know, suffering with hay fever, like I have been this summer and all the rest of it, but you know, on a good day or a good season, if I’m waking up at 5:00 AM, this is what the routine would look like.
So here we go. So wake up at five, wash my face. Come downstairs. And then I would make myself a cup of coffee. And then I would go and find my favorite spot in the house, which is on the, uh, the couch in the living room with my iPad. And I’ve not looked at my phone by the way. And I opened up my iPad. I don’t look at notifications.
I’m facing the window where there’s a lovely view of the countryside Hills because I live in a farm. Um, not in the bond, by the way, I live on a farm. Uh, and I like to watch, you know, either the sun rising or whatever, and I will just do something called Morning Pages, which is free form gratitude and, um, You know, just emptying my head, doing something called a brain dump.
And I just don’t judge what I’m writing. And I write for, you know, maybe about 20, 30 minutes and I’m just emptying my head, processing emotions, maybe planning and all that. Then I’m going to, um, get up and walk the dog. And as I’m walking, that’s my exercise. And I’m going to listen to an audio book at the same time.
So. Then I come back and probably make myself under the drink or whatever, maybe a bit of breakfast. And then I’m going to start working on some project, whether it’s one of my businesses, a passion project, like my, uh, my book, I’m writing a book at the moment or recording an album and I just do some, I do one thing towards that passion project and I make sure that I do that every single day.
So now that’s the morning routine. You can see that it’s quite bite sized. I’m not doing masses of our massive amount, um, on each of those things, you know, it’s like 20 minutes here, half an hour here, whatever. But the point is the compounding effect of persistency. That’s the key to the success. So I wrote a book, half of the book that I’m writing just by doing the 5:00 AM club because I was waking up and I was writing for probably about half an hour.
But I was doing half an hour every day. So it wasn’t about writing 10,000 words in one day or one week or whatever. It was like, oh, I’ll write a few hundred words. I’ll write 500 words. I might write a thousand words depending on the flow that I’m in. But I do that every single day and I’m making progress.
So. What does your morning routine need to look like? My morning routine has to have an element of the three things that are mentioned in the 5:00 AM club. So you can, you can again, choose if you want to do this, but it has to be an element of exercise. There has to be an element of. Uh, prayer meditation or, you know, wellness, wellbeing.
Yeah. Uh, the other thing would be, there has to be an element of self-development. So that’s listening to books or reading books or taking a course or learning a language or whatever is I would advocate you do those three things or have them in your routine at some point. So they have it. There’s my morning routine.
Just a very quick one today. Just wanted to give you something that you can cherry pick from, and maybe it will inspire you to get up. Go and start crushing it in business and in life and feel a bit more centered and be ready for whatever the day brings.
